Today, Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts gathered at Chapel Scout HQ to take part in JOTA-JOTI; a gathering of Scouts from all over the world over amateur radio and the internet.

The young people got to take part in a variety of other activities linked to communication and other countries. The Squirrels, Beavers, and Cubs set off on a culinary tour and discovered a variety of new tastes and textures from all corners of the globe, before creating their own “mini-flag” replicas. Everyone was able to try their hand at sending messages in morse code via a few sets of well-programmed Micro:bits – thanks to Martin for putting these together! The Cubs and Scouts also learnt how to tie a friendship knot and sent messages through semaphore signals.

The main event, of course, was speaking to a variety of Scout groups from around the world over the airwaves. Of the 45 call-signs we made contact with, the most notable were Scotland, the USA, and the tropical region of Yorkshire. A massive thank you to Tom and Adrian who volunteered to organise, set up, and run everything radio-wise.
