Back by popular demand! This year sees the return of the High Peak Wallaboree! The theme of the camp this time is “Our World“.
For those of you that don’t know, a ‘Wallaboree’ is the name for the activity packed District Camp, which is held every two years at Gradbach Scout Camp. The name Wallaboree comes from the words ‘Wallaby’, after the colony of Wallabies which live in the wild near Gradbach and ‘Jamboree’, the Scouting word for a large camp or gathering.
However, all you need to know is that a ‘Wallaboree’ is a camp which is packed with exciting activities and this one is no exception! The weekend camp is open to Explorers, Scouts and Cubs who will camp overnight in tents. Beavers are invited to visit for the day on the Saturday (8am until 6:30pm) however they cannot stay over.
We have not yet finalised the list of the activities planned for the camp but to give you an idea from previous years, they usually include activities like: Climbing Wall, Low Ropes, Circus Skills, Cave System, Assault Course, Mountain Bikes, Exotic animals show, Rock Climbing, Crate stacking, Bushcraft, Inflatables, Black Hole, Crafts tent, Graffiti Wall, Quiet Zone, Feely boxes, Grass sledging, Mountain Boards, Nature Trail, Slack Lining, Big Games, Monkey Bridge, Pioneering, Pop Bottle rockets, Pioneering etc.
This year’s camp will take place between Friday 6th May (6:30pm) and Sunday 8th May 2019 (2:30pm). Beavers will visit on Saturday 7th May.
The cost of the camp is £35.00 for Explorers, Scouts & Cubs, which covers all activites – groups will also charge a fee for food and consumables.
The cost of the day for Beavers is £20.00; we ask them to bring a packed lunch but they will get an evening BBQ before leaving.
Places must be booked through your group/section and your section leaders will be in touch soon to tell you how to book.
